She was born June 8, 1924, to Frank and Anna Keller in the Riverdale New Sweden area. She attended Riverdale and Holy Rosary School, graduating from Shelley High School.

She married Ewald "EJ" Steinke on June 9, 1947, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Idaho Falls. They farmed first in New Sweden and later in the Roberts area with a cattle ranch in Island Park. After EJ's retirement, many winters were spent in a warmer area.

Upon EJ's passing, Virginia enjoyed many days with her sisters and brothers playing cards and fishing at her ranch in Island Park.

Virginia was famous for her great raspberry patch jam that she enjoyed giving away, and her delicious homemade chocolate candies. She was a very active Catholic. Virginia loved entertaining family and friends, and fishing at the ranch.

Survivors include her son, Alan F. (Sheri) Steinke of Rigby; three grandsons, Jason (Bonnie) Steinke and Tyler Steinke, both of Idaho Falls, and Jesse (Jenny) Perkes of Millville, Utah; three granddaughters, Valerie (Cody) Kropp of Kimberly, Idaho, Kelsey (Brandon) Palmer of Idaho Falls and Cody (Zane) Parkinson of Hyrum, Utah; one sister, Joan Eckersell of Idaho Falls; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewald "EJ" Steinke; a daughter, Sharine Steinke Perkes; her parents; brothers, Carl, Art, Earl and Richard Keller; her sisters, Dorothy Schureman, Janice Walstrom and Iola Granberg; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 Ninth St. in Idaho Falls, with Father Jose Ramirez, celebrant. A rosary was held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, with a visitation for family and friends following from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., both at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
