William Alan Propp, 68, of Idaho Falls, died June 30, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following complications from surgery.
He was born Sept. 29, 1940, to Henry William Propp and Kathryn Willard Propp in Fort Collins, Colo. He grew up in the area and graduated from Loveland High School. He continued his education at the University of Colorado and received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He then attended Oregon State University, where he pursued his doctorate.
On June 18, 1966, he married Pamela Kay Paul in Lincoln City, Ore. In 1984, they moved to Idaho Falls. He worked as a chemical engineer at Bechtel and while there received several patents for processes he developed. Following his retirement, he worked at Rocknaks. Alan enjoyed woodworking, reading (especially science fiction), gardening and volunteering as a soccer coach.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Propp of Idaho Falls; children, Jeremy (Stephanie) Propp, Laura (fiance Aaron Schweiger) McConeghy, both of Boise, and Allison (fiance Benjamin Dahl) Propp of Idaho Falls; a granddaughter, Zoe Propp of Boise; and a brother, Gary Propp of Longmont, Colo.
A gathering for family and friends will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 6, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
