Gordon Dee Jones, 69, of Idaho Falls, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Gordon was born Aug. 10, 1944, in the back seat of a car in Thermopolis, Wyo., to Joseph Melling Jones and Leah Dalley Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Draper, Utah, and graduated from Jordan High School. He also attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University and earned his master's degree in education from Idaho State University.

On March 24, 1967, he married the love of his life, Carol Valeen Hill, at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born five children: Gregory, Carleen, Catherine, Gerod and Calise.

Gordon and Carol made their home near Ucon, Idaho, where Gordon was a salesman turned schoolteacher at Burton Elementary in Rexburg, Fairview Elementary in Idaho Falls and finally at Ammon Elementary, where he was working at the time of his death. He also served as president of the Bonneville Education Association.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a 2-year mission to the Taiwan Southern Far East Mission. He served in several callings throughout his life, including executive secretary, counselor in the Bishopric, finance clerk, Elder's Quorum president and Seventies president.

He spent summers in his large garden. He enjoyed hiking, reading, Idaho history, teaching fourth-graders and ketchup. He loved being surrounded by his family.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol Jones of Idaho Falls; sons, Gregory (Kristin) Jones of Belmont, Calif., and Gerod (Rebecca) Jones of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughters, Carleen (Justin) Judy and Catherine (Richard) Barton, both of Idaho Falls, and Calise (Kellen) Zollinger of St. Joseph, Mich.; brothers, Winslow (Glenda) Jones of Yuma, Ariz., and Joseph (Bonnie) Jones of Weston, Idaho; sister, Myrtle (Howard) Allen of Draper, Utah; and 20 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
