Velma Stacey Obituary

Velma James Stacey, 89, of Rigby, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at her home.

She was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, to William Henry James and Lydia Brown Foster James.

She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School.

On July 25, 1942, she married Eldon Richard Stacey in Malad, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with one daughter and four sons. Velma and Eldon made their home in the Lorenzo area. She worked for Ucon Produce, D & L Cleaners and for many potato warehouses and farmers in the area.

Velma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she served in the Relief Society and Primary. She was also a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Velma enjoyed quilting, cooking for friends and family, visiting with people, traveling to see family and helping others.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Lee (Virginia) Stacey of Boise, and Douglas James (Barbara Jean) Stacey, Edwin Blaine (Pat) Stacey and Kenneth J. Stacey, all of Rigby; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Velma Faye Johns; granddaughter, Ana Peltier; grandson, Brandon Stacey; five sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday prior to services, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
