Maria D. Lindsay, 57, of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with breast cancer, with her husband by her side.
Maria was born July 14, 1956, in New York to Mark Anthony Dondero and Ann Mangini Dondero.
She was raised on Long Island and had a wonderful childhood. She attended mostly Catholic schools and excelled in whatever she did. She received an MBA from St. John's University.
She started her career with J.C. Penney, overseeing catalog marketing strategy. She then moved on to IBM as Director of Market Intelligence. She managed the Asian market for two years, living in Tokyo, Japan. She then moved to Athens, Greece, to manage Western Europe for another two years.
In 2002, she joined Thomson Reuters as Senior Vice President, Global Head Markets Division, managing a team in London, England, and New York City, retiring in 2011.
Maria loved to work hard and learn new things. She valued education and pushed those around her to excel. She loved people and they loved her in return.
In 2010, Maria joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York City and later was invited to her missionary's wedding in Preston, Idaho. It was there she met Douglas Lindsay of Blackfoot. They were married November 19, 2011. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 19, 2012. Maria was overjoyed to be welcomed into her new family. She loved Doug's children as her own and spoiled her new grandchildren as much as she could. She loved them and they loved her. She also gained five sisters, who really became "her sisters." She loved them with all her heart.
Maria loved sports and cultural events. Her favorite athletes and dancers were her grandchildren. She was at every game or dance until her health began to fail. She will be missed as their favorite cheerleader.
Maria served as Relief Society teacher in the Rose 2nd Ward and was currently serving as a ward missionary with her husband. Maria loved the Temple and was a missionary wherever she went.
Maria is survived by her husband, Douglas Lindsay of Blackfoot; parents, Mark and Ann Dondero of Long Island, New York; brother, Mark Dondero of New York; stepchildren, Steven (Kaylee) Lindsay, John (Hilary) Lindsay, Adrianne Hill and Michael (Quinn) Lindsay, all of Blackfoot; and the light of her life, her 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Dondero, and grandson, Graham.
Maria wanted her husband, Doug, his family and her ward in Blackfoot to know that they have been her rock through the past 2 years. She could not have made so many life changes without their love and support. She has never been happier, more spiritual or more content than while she has lived in Blackfoot.
Many thanks go out to those who rallied around her during the last few weeks of her life and a special, special thank you to Kara and Jessica from Blackfoot Hospice; she and Doug love you both! A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at the Rose LDS Chapel, with Bishop Bob Despain conducting. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
