Ruth Broadhurst Vander Linden Obituary

Ruth Broadhurst Vander Linden, 91, of St. Anthony, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her home surrounded by loving family.

She was born Sept. 15, 1922, in St. Anthony to Martha Beam and Stephen Broadhust. She attended Central Elementary and graduated from South Fremont High School.

Ruth married Donald F. Vander Linden on July 29, 1940, in Rigby, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They became the parents of six children, of whom they were always proud.

Mom was a master gardener and talented artist and served as a leader in Cub Scouts and 4-H.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She served two full-time missions with her husband.

At the age of 50, Mom went back to school to become a licensed practical nurse and was a hospice volunteer for 20 years.

She is survived by her children, Nolan Vander Linden of St. Anthony, Cathy (Sam) Bang of South Jordan, Utah, Alita (Arden) Stoddard of Egin, Idaho, Scott (Kara) Vander Linden of Jerome, Idaho, and Ken Vander Linden of St. Anthony; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Donald Nicholas; five sisters; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, in the St. Anthony 3rd and 4th Ward Chapel, 507 W. Second North in St. Anthony. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bert Flamm Mortuary, 581 E. First North in St. Anthony. A private family visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
