Wilma Violet Hansen, 96, of Tetonia, was taken from this earth Tuesday, March 11, 2014, from natural causes.
She was born Dec. 21, 1917, to Violet and Ernest Mennear in Corrine, Utah. She was raised in Richfield, Idaho, through the eighth grade, when her family moved to the Teton Valley.
On Oct. 8, 1936, she was blessed with the marriage to Gordon Porter Hansen. They lived their life in the Teton Valley area, where she was a stay-at-home mother to seven and Gordon worked in the local elevator.
In her later years, Wilma became a well-known name as a cook in multiple restaurants in Tetonia and Driggs. The café was a big part of her life for many years, until she retired at the age of 84.
Gordon passed away in June 1974. Since that time, she lived alone in Tetonia until October 2013.
She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her kids and numerous grandkids. Her family always looked forward to homemade clam chowder on Christmas Eve at her house. She loved to make her famous cinnamon rolls that were enjoyed by all. Country music was always a big part of her life, calling herself George Strait's biggest fan. It was not uncommon to find her sitting at her bay window on Main Street watching the cars go by and quietly anticipating a visitor to stop by.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Clinton, deceased) Reece of Felt, Steve (Linda) Hansen of Pocatello, Karla (Elmo) Woolstenhulme of Idaho Falls and Debbie (Keith) Woolstenhulme of Idaho Falls; sisters, Nona (Arlo) Moffat of Idaho Falls and Reva Beard of Arco; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; son, Vern Hansen; daughters, Margie Moulton and Gayle Martin; son-in-law, Clinton Reece; and grandson, Shane Reece.
The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Teton Peaks Assisted Living Center in Driggs, as well as OneSource Hospice and Dr. Scott Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at the Tetonia LDS Chapel, with Bishop Jim Douglas officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Cache-Clawson Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
