Elsie Sharp Obituary

Elsie Sharp, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in Meridian, Idaho.

Elsie Joyce Sharp was born in Challis, Idaho, on Oct. 16, 1917, the daughter of Burton and Beatrice (Bradbury) Fox. She grew up in Challis and graduated from Challis High School with the class of 1935. She went to the University of Idaho Teachers College.

Upon graduation, she returned to Challis to teach elementary school for a few years until her marriage to Joseph Lessil Sharp on Feb. 16, 1941. They moved to Mackay, Idaho, where he was teaching. The couple moved to Salmon for a year and Nezperce as well. They welcomed their two children, William and Jacqueline, along the way. Elsie enjoyed her time at home raising their children.

In 1946, they returned to Challis, where Lessil was the probate judge and operated the title company. Elsie worked many years by his side at the title company.

Lessil passed away in 1971, and Elsie married Sam Smith in 1973. They remained in Challis, and Sam passed away in 1996.

Elsie remained in her home, the home she grew up in, until she could no longer stay alone. She moved to Meridian to be with her daughter, Jacquie, until her death.

Elsie leaves to mourn her passing her son, Bill (Carol) Sharp of Challis; daughter, Jacqueline Richards of Meridian, Idaho; three grandchildren, Chris (Amie) Sharp of Fort Collins, Colo., Tonya (D.J.) Doughty of Wenatchee, Wash., and Lessil (Amanda) Richards of Meridian; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Joel and Arron Sharp of Fort Collins, Colo., Shade and Carsey McKay and Indiana Doughty of Wenatchee, Wash., and Dante' Richards of Meridian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, J. Lessil Sharp and Sam Smith; brother, Bill Fox; and sister, Beatrice Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 29, at the Challis Community Church U.C.C., with burial in Challis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Challis.
