1922 - 2014 Obituary Condolences

Naomi Valora Nielson Larsen, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at The Gardens of Rigby.

She was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Goshen, Idaho, to Oliver H. Nielson and Astrid Johannson Nielson. Her childhood was spent in Goshen and she graduated from Firth High School.

On Dec. 12, 1940, she married Jay Raphael Larsen inthe Logan LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. He preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1990. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She worked in sales and buying at J.C. Penney for 25 years and for many years at The Rose Shop.

Naomi was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including ward chorister and as a temple worker. She enjoyed music, quilting, watching wrestling and Jazz basketball, and playing Chinese checkers with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending winters with her husband in Yuma, Ariz.

Survivors are her son, Jay (Karen Lee) Larsen of Idaho Falls; daughters, Vicki (Brent) Peterson of Burley, Idaho, Lana (Jan) Kirkham of Shelley, and Karen (Bruce) Dobson, Kay (David) Larsen Dickson and Janaye (Shawn) Berthelson, all of Idaho Falls; brothers, Carlos Nielson and Marvin Nielson; sisters, Nancy Nielson and Melva Johnson; 29 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; a grandson, Kale Kirkham; one great-grandson, Brycen Blackburn; three brothers, Lavern Nielson, Dennis Nielson and Carl Nielson; and three sisters, Edla Schnell, Venice Hess and Marilyn Hansen.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the caregivers at The Gardens of Rigby: Dennis, Cindy, Suzanne, Amber, Tegan, Kenzi, Kelsey and Dorthy; as well as Hands of Hope Hospice, especially Betsy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the , attn: Donor Services, 6126 W. State St., Suite 305, Boise, ID 83703, with a note that funds be used locally in Idaho Falls.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Goshen Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, prior to traveling to the cemetery.
