J. Dale Browning Obituary

J. Dale Browning, 97, of Rigby, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Ozone (Bone), Idaho, to James Green Browning III and Ada Poole Browning. He was raised and attended schools in Idaho Falls.

On May 4, 1941, he married Dorothy "Vickie" Fern Mitchell in Idaho Falls; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 5, 1963. She preceded him in death.

On Oct. 20, 1979, he married Helen Mabel Mitchell in Rigby. She preceded him in death.

Dale worked with his father dry farming, hauling hay and coal and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man. He also worked for Union Pacific in Ogden, Utah, and for Rigby Plumbing for many years.

Dale was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed baseball and played on a city league in Rigby; he also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.

He enjoyed a full and happy life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a ready and hearty laugh. Dale was a totally honest and compassionate man; always thinking of others and solicitous of other people's well-being. He loved everyone.

He is survived by his children, Karen B (Jerry) Sorensen of Idaho Falls, Mark (Jerry Lee) Browning of Homedale, Idaho, and Stan (Sandra) Browning of Pocatello; stepdaughters, Sandra (Kent) Spidell of Spokane, Wash., and Janet (Jim Chesak) Moore of Rigby; stepson, Gary (JoLynn) Shipley of Rigby; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; four sisters, Ruby, Belva, Lila and Freda; and one grandson.

The family expresses their gratitude to Encompass Home Health.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Annis-Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
