Crystal Fern Schleif Lutes, 92, of Idaho Falls and previously of Bakersfield, Calif., passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at The Gables of Ammon. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
She was born June 19, 1921, in St. George, Kan., to Fred W.G. and Melissa Ellen Wooten Schleif.
On Sept. 9, 1941, Crystal married Arthur Jacob Lutes in Las Vegas. They shared many years together and had two beautiful daughters. Crystal was a loving and devoted mother. Arthur died Dec. 15, 1993.
Crystal was a member of the Baptist Church. She was a leader for Bible studies fellowship for many years. She taught her grandchildren to read the Bible and read the Bible herself everyday.
One of her favorite hobbies was tatting, which she won many awards for. Crystal taught many family members to crochet. She was a judge for the Kern County Fair for tatting. She enjoyed golf.
Family members call her a gentle spirit, caring, thoughtful and loving. She was a devoted Christian lady who loved to be with her whole family.
Crystal is survived by two daughters, Annabel (Richard) Koop of Idaho Falls and Marilyn (Edward) Ward of Bakersfield, Calif.; two granddaughters, Kristi (Steven) Robles of Foothill Ranch, Calif., and Julie (Michael) Schneider of Idaho Falls; several great-grandchildren, Sarah Jane, Ariana Crystal, Bijan Arthur, Kaedyn Bo and Cristina Julianna, all from Foothill Ranch, Calif., and Kaleigh Danielle, Lindsey Noelle, Cheyanne Kathleen, Logan Michael, Adison Mary, Cameron Demme, Jillian Claire all from Idaho Falls; one sister Wanetta Smith of Kansas; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lutes, and her parents.
The family would like to especially thank Crystal's dear friends and her caregiver, Cheryl Stevensen, who became a part of our family.
Memorial services and graveside will be held in Bakersfield, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls.
