Douglas Oakey Obituary

Douglas J Oakey, 57, of Rexburg, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, after a brave battle with cancer.

Doug was born Jan. 30, 1957, in Rexburg to Ray and Carol Oakey. He graduated from Madison High School and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Adelaide, Australia.

Following his mission, Doug attended Ricks College where he met his wife, Julie McDonald. They were married April 24, 1980. After marrying, Doug and Julie moved to Logan Utah, where Doug earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Utah State University.

Doug loved the outdoors. He and Julie shared many miles hiking, backpacking and skiing in Yellowstone and the Tetons. He was honest, hardworking, dedicated to his family and loved to spend time playing with his grandchildren.

He was a lifelong faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and completely dedicated to his church service.

Doug is survived by his wife, Julie of Rexburg; his parents, Ray and Carol of Rexburg; his children, Taaffe Oakey of Draper, Utah, Skye Beckley of Salisbury, Md., and Lisette Oakey and Ryan Oakey, both of Rexburg; his siblings, Leslie Bedke of Seattle, Clay Oakey of Seattle, Steve Oakey of Rexburg and Doyle Oakey of Monument, Colo.; and four grandsons.
