Delta Pettingill, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, June 12, 2014. She was under the care of OneSource Hospice.
Delta was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Burton, Idaho, to Glen and Murel Simmons. She grew up in the Lorenzo area and attended Rigby High School, graduating in 1955.
On July 28, 1955, she married Theo Pettingill in Idaho Falls. Together they raised two sons and two daughters. Throughout her life she lived in Lewiston, Idaho Falls, Mountain Home and Blackfoot, Idaho, and Sun Lakes and Scottsdale, Ariz. She enjoyed helping Theo in the many convenience stores they owned. Theo later died Nov. 9, 2004. Delta enjoyed being a full-time mother and homemaker.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as the Relief Society president for her ward.
She enjoyed many hobbies, such as quilting, embroidery, reading, watching TV and movies, going on scenic drives with her family and dancing. She felt that being a grandma was so wonderful that she volunteered as a grandma for a local adopt-a-grandmother program.
Delta was a gentle soul who cared deeply about her family and her home, and loved taking care of both. Delta was always generous with her time, spirit and heart. These traits will carry forward with everyone she loved. Delta's bright light will shine on.
She is survived by her son, Eric (Veronica) Pettingill of Chandler, Ariz.; daughters, Julie (Michael) Buszka of Blackfoot and Laurie Baldwin of Idaho Falls; sisters, Glenda Coles of Belt, Mont., and Jeanette (Richard) Fowler of Idaho Falls; brothers, Jack (Pat) Simmons of Mesa, Ariz., Wayne Simmons of Idaho Falls and Terry (Darla) Simmons of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo Pettingill; her parents, Glen and Murel Simmons; her son, Dana Lee Pettingill; brothers, Lyle and Jerry; and sisters, Rosalie and Diane.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 16, and one hour prior to services Tuesday, both times at Coltrin Mortuary. Interment will be at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
