Dennis Pope Obituary

Surrounded by his family at his home, William Dennis Pope returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 16, 2014, after fighting a valiant battle against an extended illness.

Dennis was born April 2, 1944, in Park City, Utah, to Max Arlo Pope and Margaret Wanda Felton. He was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Marsh Valley High School and Ricks College.

On June 16, 1967, he married Shirley Mardean Luthy and they were blessed with five children and made Archer, Idaho, their home.

He served in Seoul, Korea, during the Vietnam War and was a proud veteran.

He served an LDS mission to the Central States and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. Among his favorite callings was that of Primary teacher and home teacher. He served with his wife in the temple and as stake missionaries.

He was a respected contributor to his community wherever he lived. He wore many hats, from motel owner, parade chairman, volunteer fireman and truck driver, to employee of the State of Idaho Transportation Department.

Music, tractors, trains and family filled his leisure hours. He was a true friend to every person he met and was dearly loved. He leaves a lasting legacy to his family of his faith and endurance.

Surviving are his wife, Mardean; daughters, Kayleen (Scott) Skinner, Holly (Blake)

Schwendiman, Deniene (Layne) Green and Melanie (Josh) Nelson; son, Bryan (JaNan) Pope; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (Ray) Clements, Connie Mickelson and Beckie (Alan) Swainston; and brothers, Howard Pope and Louis (Chris) Pope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Stevens; and sister-in-law, Cathy Pope.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Archer LDS Chapel with Bishop Bryan Pope officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Sutton Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.flammfh.com.
