LaKoda Stommel

LaKoda Kirk Stommel, 22, of Shelley, passed

away Sunday, June 16, 2014, with family and friends by his side at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center

from complications of a jet skiing accident.

He was born Oct. 21, 1991, in Idaho Falls to Kirk and Christine Dickson Stommel. He was the middle child of three. He was raised and graduated high school in Shelley in 2010 and attended one year of college at TVCC in Ontario, Ore., on a baseball scholarship.

At the time of his death he worked for Yellowstone Plastic in the mounting department and Aeropostale. He got his dream job of coaching baseball for the Skyline High School freshman baseball team. Koda loved his team and was respected by them. Koda showed his team the true meaning of baseball. When he was younger, he would officiate basketball and baseball games for the younger kids in the Shelley sports program; he was a mentor to them. He was always willing to take the extra time to mentor the younger boys in the skills of playing baseball.

Koda was active in sports: football, basketball and the love of baseball and making new friends with everyone he met. He enjoyed extracurricular activities like golfing, fishing, hunting and hanging with his friends. Once you had become his friend, you could expect to be given a big hug or a handshake from him every time. He was very outgoing and loved by everyone he met; he would do anything and everything to help anybody.

Koda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Koda is survived by his parents, Kirk and Christine Stommel of Shelley; his siblings, Brittney (Mike) Kidman and Thor Stommel, both of Shelley; nephew, Ayden Kidman of Shelley; grandparents, Joe and Gisela Dickson of West Jordan, Utah, Wanda Patterson of Idaho Falls, and Byron and Sylvia Stommel of Idaho Falls. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his niece, Ema Leigh Kidman, and his great-grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Shelley Stake Center, 325 E. Locust St., with Bishop Boyd Price conducting. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www .nalderfuneralhome.com.
