Nila Ruth Staples Dial, 85, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at her home in LaBelle.

She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in St. Anthony, the oldest daughter of Wilford Britton and Maggie Josephine (Margaret) Smith Staples.

She married Elmo B. Dial on Oct. 18, 1949, in Goshen. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

She was raised in Goshen and graduated from Firth High School. She and her husband have lived in LaBelle for 50 years.

She made her family of 10 children her career. When her youngest child was in elementary school, she began working for the lunch program in the Rigby schools and retired in 1991.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in all the auxiliaries and in numerous positions such as Relief Society president, Primary president, Cub Scout den mother and Young Women's secretary. She and her husband served in the Toronto Canada Mission and worked in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years.

She loved to quilt, sew, embroider and crochet, and made quilts and afghans for all her children, grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of LaBelle; four sons, Boyd (Nancy), serving an LDS mission at the Los Angeles Family History Center, Verl (Jan) of LaBelle, Bert (Kelly) of Nixa, Mo., and Jody (Julie Ann) of Sandy, Utah; five daughters, Kaylene (Robert) Armstrong of Hattiesburg, Miss., Lynette (Dana) Green of Grant, RuthAnn (Syd) Beazer and Krista (Cody) Arave, both of Rigby, and Janet (Rick) Evans of Shelley; 32 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Darrell (Julie) Staples and Merlin (Glenda) Staples, both of Idaho Falls.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie, one brother and one sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at the LaBelle LDS Church, 4223 E. 528 North in Rigby. Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday, both times at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home of Rigby.
