Geraldine W. "Jerry" Gardner, 81, of Blackfoot, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Gem Village Assisted Living Center in Blackfoot.
She was born April 17, 1933, in Blackfoot, the daughter of George Clifford Walker and Rosella Ann Sharp Walker. Geraldine attended school in Wapello and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
On Sept. 25, 1951, she married Norman Duane Gardner in Blackfoot. He preceded her in death Sept. 9, 1998.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Junior Sunday School Coordinator for years, Counselor in Relief Society and Organist. She also played at an Episcopalian Church.
Geraldine taught music and worked at Bingham Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed flowers, fishing, painting and writing stories and played five musical instruments. But her greatest joy came in loving and serving her family.
She is survived by her children, Tresa Jo Durfee and Lora Lee (Delynn) Sasser, both of Blackfoot, Reggie (Betsy) Gardner of Lake City, Iowa, Rick (Deona) Gardner of Rose, and Timothy J. (Laura) Gardner of Blackfoot; 19 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, LaVoy J. (Darlene) Walker of Blackfoot.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; son-in-law, Carl Durfee; and two brothers, Ferrel and Clifford Verdel Walker.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Hawker Funeral Home and for one hour Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grove City Cemetery.
