Richard Huntsman Obituary

Richard DeLos Huntsman, 66, of Ashton, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 19, 1945, in Idaho Falls to DeLos Glen and Fay LaRue Grover Huntsman. He attended school in St. Anthony and Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

He was affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Ashton Christian Fellowship.

He was very service-minded and served his community in many areas.

He was a councilman on the Ashton City Council for 12 years, a member of the American Legion and served as the commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He volunteered as emcee for many high school activities for 19 years. He helped with the Cowboy Poetry Association and served as director of the Ashton Visitor's Center.

He enjoyed fishing, watching the Denver Broncos and was a fan of John Wayne and Elvis Presley.

He is survived by his children, Cassandra Huntsman of Ashton, Darryll (Courtney) Huntsman, Dwayne (Amber) Huntsman, Larry (Robin) Huntsman and Brandon Huntsman of Colorado; grandchildren, Tyler, Kaylee, Daylene, Mason and Jacob; step-father, Larry (LaRue) Fowler of Hurricane, Utah; siblings, Pat (Jack) Cordon of St. Anthony, Sandi Seeley of Hazelton, Shauna (Richard) Reynolds of Mackay, Franciena (Geoffrey) Steinmetz of Pingree, Michelle Fowler of Boise and Troy (Rachelle) Fowler of Silverthorne, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a brother-in-law, Dennis Seeley.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Ashton Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Rich Laux officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to services. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 89 and the Idaho Honor Guard.
