John Monroe Bybee Obituary

1949-2012 On Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, after a long battle with cancer, John Monroe Bybee passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Idaho Falls, he was the oldest of five children of George Monroe and Barbara Waters Bybee. Growing up in Idaho, he was an avid reader and loved sports and the outdoors, especially skiing.

He was active in the LDS church and served a mission in Southern Germany. Upon returning from Germany, John graduated cum laude from the University of Utah, continuing on to earn his J.D. from the University of Utah Law School.

John worked as an attorney for more than 20 years in Washington, Idaho and Utah.

While in school he developed a love of politics, eventually serving as a delegate to the 1972 Republican National Convention in Miami.

On Jan. 16, 1975, John married the love of his life, Carma Lu Child, in the Ogden Temple. Together they raised four children. Throughout his life, John's greatest happiness stemmed from his family, spending time together, playing and coaching sports, skiing, paintball and spirited political debates. More recently, he enjoyed a love for photography and cherished time spent chasing his four granddaughters and holding his two grandsons.

John leaves behind his wife, Carma; sons, Mykel (Dalal), Lance and John Matthew (Leslie); daughter, Lara (Don) Peterson; six grandchildren; and siblings, Carol (Willey) McKean, Bruce, Kent and Shauna (John) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main in Farmington, Utah, where viewings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, and from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to services. Interment will be in Mantua City cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.russonmortuary.com.
