Victor Kelsey Obituary

Victor Lee Kelsey, 78, of Shelley, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Victor was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Shelley to Catherine Annette Malcom and LaVar Orson Kelsey, and was the first of six children. He was a lifelong resident of Shelley, attended Shelley schools and graduated from Shelley High School.

Following graduation, Victor enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed basic training in Fort Irwin, Calif. Victor went on to serve in Fulda, Germany, as a military police officer during the peacekeeping efforts after WWII.

Victor married Constance Louis Skoy in 1959, with whom he had two sons, Layne and Lance. He later married Grace Castro Sibulo in 1979, and had one daughter, Leah.

Victor loved camping and fishing with his family, traveling, riding his motorcycle and taking immaculate care of his vehicles and yard.

He served as a Shelley police officer for a number of years before beginning work at the Idaho National Laboratory as a security guard. During his 38 years at the INL, he held various positions before he retired in 1994 as a maintenance controller.

After retirement, Victor and Grace traveled the world from Australia to Africa to Asia. They embarked on over 25 cruises and logged over 200 cruise days. Victor was particularly fond of his travels in South America on his favorite cruise ship, the MS Ryndam. He also loved Alaska, having traveled there on five occasions.

Victor is survived by his wife, Grace Kelsey of Shelley; his children, Layne Kelsey of Murray, Utah, Lance Kelsey of Ammon and Leah Kelsey of Boise; brother, Danny Kelsey of Grand View, Texas; sisters, Bonnie Edwards of Springfield, Mo., and Darlene Harper and Suzanne White, both of Shelley; and his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Verge.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date.
