Voris Marie Wheeler Obituary

Voris Marie Perry Wheeler, 90, of Ririe, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, at her home surrounded by her family.

Voris was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Rigby to Elizabeth Park and Albert Zabina Perry. As a young girl, she enjoyed reading, swimming, playing on the monkey bars her Dad built, climbing trees and going for walks. She also liked to help her mother tend the garden and the chickens. She attended schools in Clark and Rigby.

She met John Arnold Wheeler at a dance in January 1940 and they were married Oct. 1, 1940, in Ririe. They lived most of their married life in the Ririe area, where they raised their three children. John and Voris were sealed together, along with their children, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Voris served in many areas, including Relief Society, Primary, Young Women, the library and loved to go to the temple. She was a founding member of the Golden Grain Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP). Along with a few other ladies, she helped establish the Ririe City Library and served countless hours there. She also worked at the local voting precinct during the elections.

Voris loved to collect stamps and poems and often recited poems she learned in school. She enjoyed reading, singing and spent many hours doing genealogy. She worked hard gardening and cooking and canning the proceeds. Voris was always busy in the evenings doing some kind of needlework, including embroidering, crocheting and quilting. Voris also worked alongside her husband on their farm east of Ririe.

She is survived by a son, Keith (Jill) Wheeler of Ririe; a daughter, Kay (Billy) Arnold of Camden, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Voris was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alene Nelson; two brothers, Vance and Alden Perry; a son, Timothy John Wheeler; and her beloved husband just two months ago.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Ririe Stake Center, 14061 N. 130 East in Ririe. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both times at the Ririe Stake Center. Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
