Our mother and grandmother, Lorraine, passed away under extremely difficult circumstances after suffering nine years with Alzheimer's disease.
Lorraine was the first of three children born to Leonard and Mabel Kaske Knudsen in Chicago. She attended schools in Chicago, graduating from Foreman High School in 1944.
Lorraine met her future husband in first grade. They were married May 22, 1948. Their two daughters, Dawn and Lori, were born in Chicago 51/2 years apart.
Lorraine was a steady and constant support to her husband as he ran various businesses throughout their marriage. She made 5 pounds of German potato salad every day for their small restaurant. It was a favorite dish of family and friends.
Lorraine cared for her parents and mother-in-law with loving care through illnesses they suffered. She enjoyed being with her family, especially her cousins.
She and Bob enjoyed traveling in the United States but always enjoyed their summers at their lake cabin in northern Wisconsin. After Bob's passing in 1998, she enjoyed traveling with Lori in Europe and Greece.
Lorraine was surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren at the time of her death.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Steven) Gale and Lori Niemann; her grandchildren, Heidi Gale, Megan (Kyle) Holbrook, Becky (Justin) O'Rourke-Richter and Mark Anderson; her sister, Patricia Bott; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Niemann; and her brother, William Knudsen.
Our family would like to especially thank the many caregivers at Mt. Vernon for their kind and loving care, with particular thanks to Kara, Charity, Lacey, Cindy, Lindsey and Heather and so many others for their patience and love.
Private family services will be held. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
