Ferrin B. Kinghorn Obituary

Ferrin B. Kinghorn, 92, of Rigby, honored husband, dad, gramps and great-grandpa, passed away peacefully at his home in Rigby on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, two days after his 68th wedding anniversary to his wife, Virginia.

Ferrin was born February 21, 1921, in Rigby, the third of five children to Arthur Thomas Kinghorn and Mary Ballantyne Kinghorn. He was raised in the Bybee area and graduated from Rigby High School in 1939.

After high school, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked for Lockheed until joining the Navy in 1941. He became a full lieutenant fighter pilot, flying off aircraft carriers.

On September 15, 1945, he married Virginia Adalyn Blessing in Wynne, Arkansas.

He then attended Pepperdine University on the G.I. Bill and then graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1952 from Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University.

He taught veterinary medicine for one year before returning to the Rigby area to begin his practice, the Rigby Veterinary Clinic. He practiced full time until the age of 80, when he decided to slow down a bit.

He loved spending time at his cabin in Island Park, as well as fishing and golfing. In 1995, he enjoyed a lifelong desire to fish in Alaska.

He is survived by Virginia Kinghorn, his wife of 68 years; his four children, Scott (Cristeen) of Kennewick, Washington, Mary Brook (Reed) Brimhall of Meridian, Idaho, Clark (Dena) of Rigby, and Laura Kinghorn of Idaho Falls; sister, Mary Lou (Delos) Nelson of Pipestone, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Althea Phippen; and brothers, Clyde Kinghorn and Dale Kinghorn.

We will miss you, Dad, and will always take with us the strong work ethic, honesty and kindness to others that you instilled in us.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Annis-Little Butte Cemetery with military rites by the Jefferson Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
