Colt Kunz Obituary

Elder Colt Daniel Kunz, 20, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, in Tampico, Mexico, while serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born Aug. 11, 1993, in Rexburg, and was the youngest of 10 children born to Ryan and Ranae Hathaway Kunz. Colt grew up on the family farm in Victor. Riding horses, moving pipe, riding four-wheelers and motorbikes, and working alongside his family were many activities he enjoyed. He became an Eagle Scout at age 13.

Colt attended Teton High School. As a natural athlete, he participated in all sports including basketball, baseball, track, cross-country and golf. He graduated in 2012 with honors.

Colt studied at BYU-Idaho, hoping to one day become a dentist. He was called to the Mexico, Tampico, mission, where he had many beautiful experiences loving the people and sharing his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Colt was everybody's best friend and had a magnetic personality that made others easily drawn to him. Although his life seemed short, Colt righteously fulfilled his mission here on Earth. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his parents, Ryan and Ranae Hathaway Kunz; and his siblings, Melissa (Shawn) Clark, Doug (Brittany) Kunz, Marinda (Max) Bartschi, Megan (Greg) Bean, Angelica (Tyler) Overall, Phillip (Melissa) Kunz, Burke (Rachelle) Kunz, Clarissa (deceased) and Brody (Mecayle) Kunz; 27 nieces and nephews; and his grandmother, Bernice Hathaway Powell.

Colt was preceded in death by grandparents, Merle and Maurine Kunz, Phillip Hathaway and Rulon Powell.

Funeral services will be tentatively held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Driggs LDS Stake Center. A viewing will be tentatively held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, and from 9 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Monday prior to services at the Driggs LDS Stake Center. Burial will be at Cedron Cemetery under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot with Valley Mortuary assisting.

Dear Brother and Sister Kunz,
My heart goes out to you and your family during this hard time in your life. While our son was serving a mission he would remind me that if he was called home the best time for him would be while he was serving the Lord because that was when he was most spiritually prepared. May you find peace in knowing your son is still in the Lord care. With deepest Sympathy.
