BARBARA SOMMERS, OF PENSACOLA, FL "Barbara" Sommers, Pensacola, FL, was born November 16, 1928 in Boyertown, Pa. and passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Hospice at West Florida Hospital. She was the daughter of Alfred B. Harrison and Katherine Remick Harrison. She is survived by two sisters Patricia Fery and Peggy Williams and her close friend who Barbara considered her daughter BG Parkes. Her animals Dolly and Edgar also survive her. She spent over 50 plus years in the retail industry and had retired from Dillard's in both Mobile, AL and Pensacola Fl as store manager. She was involved with the Republican Executive Committee of Pensacola, West Florida Hospital as a volunteer, which she received "The First Humanitarian Award" as a Volunteer of the Year in 2003. She dedicated many hours to The Pensacola Historical Preservation Society in which she volunteerd at The Quinna House. She attended and spent time with Church functions and feeding the homeless thru the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She will be deeply missed by those who lives she touched. In lieu of flowers we are suggesting that a donation be made in her name to The Pensacola Historic Preservation Society, Inc PO Box 12404 Pensacola, Fl 32582 or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 24 West Wright Street, Pensacola, Fl 32501 or a charity of your choice. We will have a "Celebration Of Barbara's Life" Thursday evening at Bayview Park in pavilion 1. She loved having a picnic at the park so please join us in doing so from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. There will be a moment of silence for her at 7 p.m.

Barbara was a good friend and I'll never forget how well she treated me when I was hospitalized. Sorry we could not come to her celebration of life.

Had the nicest visit with her at Publix about a month ago! I managed Norma's at Dillards and had so much respect for her! Very sweet lady!

Barbara was a dedicated Volunteer in the ICU/Open Heart at West Florida Hospital for the past 12 years. She will be greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
