ROLAND V. MENTZER JR., 66, OF POTTSTOWN Roland V. Mentzer Jr., 66, of Pottstown, PA, went to be with the Lord, following a 16 month battle with lung cancer, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Bechtel) Edwards Mentzer and the late Brenda (Pennypacker) Mentzer who died in 2003.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Roland V. Mentzer, Sr. and Eleanor (Engle) Mentzer. Roland was a 1966 graduate of Pottstown High School. During high school, he worked as a stock boy for the former New York Store and the Betty Lee Shop. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966-68.
Roland was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, where in earlier years, he was active in the choir and youth group. For 39 years, he was a machine operator for the Dana Corporation, retiring in 2009. He was an avid bowler and participated in leagues at the Manatawny Association and Jay Lanes. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed doo-wop music and collecting vinyl records. Roland spent time with his family and friends at his beach house in Georgetown, DE.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four stepdaughters, Lori, wife of Rich Markel of Smyrna, DE; Jacqueline, wife of the late Michael Dolla of Spring City, PA; Patricia Edwards of Pottstown, and Lori, wife of Anthony O'Neal of Perkiomenville, PA; two sisters, Barbara, wife of Jim Gotshall of Pottstown, and Marie Mentzer of Pottstown; six step grandchildren, Chelsea, Cody, Camryn, Cassidy, Gabriel and Rebekah; one step great-grandson, Braxton, and his nephew, Edward Plowfield, husband of Fran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step granddaughter, Asia Dolla.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in Fernwood Cemetery (Royersford Cemetery), Royersford, PA.

Bobbi,
