Anna Lee Strate Mercer

ANNA LEE STRATE MERCER Anna Lee Mercer of Lebanon, NH, formerly of Pottstown, PA, died on November 24, 2012, at the age of 89. Anna Lee was born on September 23, 1923 to Fred Strate and Leah Justesen Strate. She was the youngest of three children with her brother, Sterling, and sister, Neva. She was a graduate of Provo High school and attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University. While working at Eglin Field Army Air Force Base in Florida during World War II, she met and married David H. Mercer in 1945. They moved to Pottstown, where they became faculty members at The Hill School for the next 42 years. Anna Lee worked as a secretary in the alumni office at the school for 15 years and in the athletic department for five years. She was a faithful volunteer for the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for 15 years and assisted her husband in sponsoring the Red Cross Blood Program at The Hill. The family spent their summers in New Hampshire from 1948-1992, where Annie and Dave worked for Camp Deerwood, a boy's camp in Holderness, NH. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Allen and Leah Galbraith, their husbands, Stephen and Keith; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and her sister, Neva Thomas. Her beloved husband of 67 years, David, passed away in August of this year. It is a comfort to us all to know they are now reunited and with the Lord. Throughout her life, she had a deep love for and commitment to her family and friends as well as the many students and campers she was surrounded by. Though we will miss her so very much, we will carry her sweet, gentle spirit, her love of music and beauty and her compassion with us always. A memorial service is planned for January in New England, date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to Family Renewal Shelter, c/o Keith Galbraith, 6832 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, Washington 98408.
