Bernice J. McMullen

BERNICE J. MCMULLEN, 80 Bernice J. McMullen, 80, of Port St. Lucie, FL, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease on December 2, 2012, at the LifeCare Center of Port St. Lucie where she was lovingly cared for. Born on September 16, 1932, in Bechtelsville, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Benfield and Elva (Moyer) Benfield. She was the wife of J. William McMullen. They were married 38 years. Bill was very attentive to his wife, visiting her daily and making sure she enjoyed the activities and entertainment at the facility including attending weekly church services. They loved to travel, enjoying Hawaii and a Mediterranean cruise and sightseeing stateside. Bernice worked at various jobs before settling in as a dental assistant for Dr. Ashcroft in Bally, PA. She continued in that line of work when they transferred to Schaumburg, IL. She loved shopping and decorating her home. Friends visited often marveling at her decorating skills. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of 38 years, as well as one son, Gary L. Calahan of St. Augustine, FL; one daughter, Patrice J. Beekley, wife of Richard Beekley, Pottstown, and four stepchildren, John McMullen Jr., Douglassville; Gary McMullen, husband of Peggy, Dayton, OH; Curtis McMullen, husband of Djanni of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Jessica Kline, wife of Gregory Kline, Boyertown. Other survivors include a sister, Darlene, wife of G. Robert Jones, Hanover, PA; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bernice was a member of the First Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie, FL. In addition, she was also a member of Eastern Star, Bird Chapter #460, Birdsboro.
