Clarence Alvin Smith

CLARENCE ALVIN SMITH, 84, OF PHOENIXVILLE Clarence Alvin Smith, 84, husband of the late Virginia Jane (Rennard) Smith, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Seasons Hospice. Born in Kimberton, PA, on March 17, 1929, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary (Patrick) Smith. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Although Smitty never admitted to working a day in his life, he "put time in" at Shop 6 in Phoenix Steel Corporation until it's closing, and for many years was a familiar face at Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home giving a helping hand. He was affectionately known by many names, such as "Mike", "Smitty" and "Toby". He was a very active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Mont Clare, an original member of Phoenixville McDonalds coffee club, an associate member of the Phoenixville Knights of Columbus Monday night socials, a life member of Friendship Fire Company, West End Fire Company and Mont Clare Fire Company, a member of Valley Forge Fire Company, a member of Phoenixville Senior Center and he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Smitty will always be remembered for his lightheartedness, his sense of humor and his concern for others. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann wife of Jerry Womer and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Clarence A. Smith, Jr., his brothers and sisters, Robert Smith, William Smith, Elmer Smith, Harold Smith, Marian DiFrancesco, his Twin Sister, Catherine Raggazino and Donald Smith. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening,November 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 181 Walnut Street, Mont Clare, PA 19453.
