Dominic A. Vitacco

DOMINIC A. VITACCO, 86, OF UPPER POTTSGROVE Dominic A. Vitacco, 86, husband of Marcella M. (Katalinas) Vitacco of Upper Pottsgrove Township, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Dominic and Marcella were married for 65 years. Born in Marion Heights, PA he was the son of the late Carmen Vitacco and Pauline (Danielewicz) Staskiel. In High School his team, the Kulpmont Wildcats were undefeated during the 1944 season. He earned a football scholarship to Villanova University and was proud to have played in a game against Navy in 1945. Dominic was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He first trained as a tank crewman in Japan. He then was a parachutist with the 11th Airborne Division. In Korea he served in Ammo Supply. He received a World War II Victory Medal, a U.N. Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a marksman with an M-1 rifle. He was a member of the former Pottstown American Legion, the Pottstown V.F.W., St. Gabriel's Lodge in Stowe, PA, the former Maria Assunta Lodge and was a former football coach for the M&M Rams. Dominic was a third degree member of Father Bally Council #1192 Knights of Columbus of Stowe, PA and a Fourth degree member of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly Knights of Columbus. He was also a Third Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Lay Carmelite and a volunteer with his wife for Meals on Wheels and helped with St. Aloysius R.C.C. "Feed the Needy". He was also a member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother R.C.C. Howard & Jefferson Streets in Stowe, PA. He was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather who enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He especially enjoyed the numerous camping vacations, various outings and Holiday's with his family. He never missed a Daddy-Date Night. Dominic was an oilman for the Stanley G. Flagg Company, formerly of Stowe, PA and then for the former Firestone Tire & Rubber and Occidental Chemical Company. Surviving are four sons Anthony W. Vitacco Sr., husband of Theresa of Upper Pottsgrove Township, Lawrence C. Vitacco, companion of James Rogers of Westville, NJ, Dominic J. Vitacco, husband of Deborah and Joseph D. Vitacco, husband of Beth both of Millsboro, NJ . Also, three daughters Ann M., wife of William Rieibsame of Selinsgrove, PA, Michele, wife of Michael Purcell of Huntington Valley, PA and Maria T. Vitacco of Hatboro, PA . Dominic was also predeceased by a son, Michael A. Vitacco. Dominic is also survived by a brother Michael Vitacco, husband of June and predeceased by a brother, Carmen Vitacco, but survived by his wife Margo. He is also survived by a sister Anna Pincoski, widow of Frank and predeceased by sisters Lois Stawski and her husband, Al and Kay Lubreski and her husband, Daniel. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Mother R.C.C., 127 East Howard Street, Stowe, PA on Monday July 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Township. A viewing will be Sunday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. and Monday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. at Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, 726 East High Street, Pottstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, Mass cards or Memorial Fund Contributions to St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful R.C.C., 127 East Howard Street, Stowe, PA 19464 would be preferred.
