Jane E. Yoder, 86, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Florence (Ely) Moll. Jane was a 1944 graduate of Hamburg High School. She graduated with honors from East Stroudsburg State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Health and Physical Education. Jane received a Master's Degree in Guidance from Lehigh University, where her father had also graduated.
Jane taught Science, Health and Physical Education for fourteen years for Fleetwood High School. While at Fleetwood, she was the girl's field hockey, basketball and softball coach. She then was a Guidance Counselor for twenty-years for the Hamburg Area High School, retiring in 1983 as Director of Pupil Services. Jane was inducted into both the Hamburg Area High School and East Stroudsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a member and former president of the Hamburg/Schuylkill Valley Retired School Employees Association; and a member of the Berks County Retired Guidance Counselors Association.
Jane served as the first female lifeguard at the Hamburg Swimming Pool; and was also a playground instructor. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Blue Mountain Chapter #443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg. Jane was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg.
Jane is survived by one sister: Ruth M. (Moll), wife of Charles "Jack" Reed, Myerstown; and two nephews: David S. Reed, and his wife Kamariah, Colleyville, Texas; and Scott M. Reed, and his wife Leslie, Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by her special friend: Henry Paisley; and her god-daughter: Janet Paisley, both of West Penn Twp. Jane was predeceased by a nephew: Michael D. Reed.
According to Jane's wishes, a service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Borough of Hamburg, to be used for the Recreation Department - Park and Swimming Pool Programs, 61 N. 3rd Street, Hamburg, PA 19526, in memory of Jane E.
