Joseph Novak

JOSEPH NOVAK, 91, OF STOWE Joseph "Curly" Novak, 91, of Stowe, PA passed away Friday, November22, 2013 in Columbia, PA at the home of his daughter, Pastor Rita Beck, his devoted caretaker of six years. Born in Conshohocken, PA, to the late Joseph and Alice Nowakowski and later raised in Sanatoga, PA by the late Joseph and Mary Piasecki, Mr. Novak was employed as a blacksmith and chief assembler with the former Pottstown Machine Co. He retired in the fall of 1985. He was a member of Blessed Teresa Catholic Church and the West End Fire Co. He was also a proud US Army Veteran serving during WWII. He fought in five major campaigns which included the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. A member of the Apache Division of the infantry, he was decorated for Meritorious Service and Good Conduct, and received five Bronze Battle Stars. He was also assigned to a secret mission to capture Lucia Rommel, the wife of German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, a.k.a. Desert Fox, in Germany. Additionally, he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor Novak Dec. 2, 1985; his sister Rita Knaezki; brothers Chester, Walter, and Leo Nowakowski; stepsister Jenny Zowaski; stepbrothers Bernard, Stanley, and Joseph Piasecki; and friend extraordinaire, Andy Kreuter. He is survived by Pastor Rita Beck, (daughter) Columbia, PA; Janice Smith, (daughter) Lihue, Kauai, HI; Karen Bender (daughter) and her husband Henry, Key West, FL; Joseph Novak (son) and his wife Pat, Sanatoga, PA; Maria Mooney (daughter) and her husband Tim, Boalsburg, PA; Helen Buziak (sister) Conshohocken, PA; and Dr. Diane Piasecki (goddaughter), Fair Oaks, CA. A devoted and caring grandfather, he loved his 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. They are: grandchildren - Raena Henderson (Terrence), Lancaster, PA; Rudy Beck, Landisville, PA; Amby Hunt, Marana, AZ; Jay Smith, Pottstown, PA; Jason Smith (Jenn), Centreville, VA; Karin Wanek (Carl), Ocean City, NJ; Nicole Keenan (John) Boca Raton, FL; Heather Clarke (Luke), Cherry Hill, NJ; Erica Novak (Melissa), King of Prussia, PA; Jared Novak, Phoenixville, PA; Chelsea Mooney, Naples, FL; Mikaela Mooney Boalsburg, PA; Mackenzie Mooney Boalsburg, PA; great grandchildren - Cian, Amaris, Isabella, and Richard Soto; Julia and Braylon Henderson; Jayde, Saige, and Autumn Hunt; Samuel Smith; Carl Wanek IV; Madison Keenan, and John Keenan IV; Dilyn and Charlotte Clarke.
