Laura C. Hendrick

LAURA C. HENDRICK, 77, OF KNAUERTOWN Laura Hendrick (nee Clarkson) passed away on September 25, 2012 at home in Chester County, surrounded by love. Born in New York City on April 27, 1935, she grew up in Arlington, VA. She was married to Bill, her husband for 53 years; mother of Jeffrey Paul and Janis Kay (Lassen); grandmother to five; and beloved sister to Kathy and Jill. Hundreds of piano students will remember her as a patient and inspiring teacher; others in her life as a gracious and loyal friend. She majored in Music at Virginia's Mary Washington College, where she was active as president, local chapter, of The American Guild of Organists. In Arlington, she took a job as Secretary to an 800-member Presbyterian Church. After marriage, she moved to Oreland, PA, where she did secretarial work, again, raised a family, and started a 45-year career in piano teaching. Love for students, and for attending orchestral events, continued through her years near Ithaca, NY, where she developed a passion for the out-of-doors, becoming president of a local hiking club; then in Gwynedd Valley, PA and Louisville, KY. Her final nineteen years were spent in Knauertown, Chester County, PA. Her sense of humor and openness with people brought many new friendships, especially at her church. Family and friends will gather at St Peter UCC, Knauertown, PA to celebrate Laura and her life, on Saturday, October 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to The or St Peter UCC, where she sang joyously in the choir and, on occasion, played the piano and organ.
