Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Rice) Poley, 87, formerly of Pottstown, wife of the late Gordon E. "Bob" Poley, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Parkhouse Providence Pointe Nursing Home.
Born in Loretto, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Edna (Parish) Rice.
Betty grew up in a small town near Altoona where her father and mother worked for the Charles Schwab family. In her teens, the family relocated to the Spring City area. When Bob and Betty were married 50 years their children and grandchildren surprised them with another "wedding and reception" and presented them with a dream vacation to Hawaii. Betty loved shopping in Waikiki and touring the beautiful island. She retired from Bethlehem Steel many years ago and enjoyed shopping, going to the movies and being with her family.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Parent, of Douglassville, her son, David, husband of Patricia, of Florida, her sister-in-law, Betty Poley, of Spring City, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, plus numerous extended family members.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents, sons, Timothy and Gary Poley, three brothers and one sister.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown with the Rev. Joseph Maloney officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Pottstown. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
