Pauline Hughes

PAULINE HUGHES, 93, OF SPRING CITY Pauline (Keen) Hughes, 93, wife of the late of James M. Hughes, of Spring City, died early Monday in the Manor Care Nursing Home of Pottstown. She was born in Spring City, PA, a daughter to the late E. Roy and Jenny (Bucher) Keen. Pauline was a 1939 graduate of the former Spring City High School. She owned and operated Pauline's Beauty Shoppe for many years in spring City. She also was employed at the former Pennhurst State School. Pauline was a member the First United Church of Christ in Spring City. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed knitting and was known for her "dish towels". Pauline also was a Phillies Fan and enjoyed spending time with her casino trips and being a part of numerous card clubs throughout the years. She is survived by two children, a daughter, Paula wife of Kevin Thum of Spring City, and a son, James Hughes; three grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick and Jillian wife of Joseph Alati; great-granddaughter, Violet and sister, Mary Jean Foresta, wife of Jack Foresta. She was predeceased by a son, John Hughes and sister, Grace Yeager. Her funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge & Church Streets, Spring City, PA. The Reverend Erick Kern will officiate. Burial will be private in the St. Ann's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday morning in the funeral home from 9 - 10 a.m. The family has requested memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the heartland Hospice, 460 Norristown Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422 or the First United Church of Christ, 145 Chestnut Street, Spring City, PA 19475.
