Philip R. Bechtel

PHILIP R. BECHTEL, 90, OF FREDERICK Philip R. Bechtel, 90, of Frederick, formerly of New Hanover Township, widower of Myrtle H. (Reiman) Bechtel, died Wednesday at Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Gabelsville, PA, he was a son of the late Henry Bechtel and the late Mary (Reiter) Bechtel. He was a 1939 graduate of Boyertown High School. Philip worked for Swann Oil for 20 years as a driver then a dispatcher. He later worked for Eastern Foundry for over 20 years as a supervisor in shipping and receiving. He served in the army during WWII. Philip was a member of New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees. He volunteered at Pottstown Hospital for over 20 years and was a treasurer for AARP for over 15 years. Surviving are two sons, John LaVerne Smith, husband of Rachel of Cameron Park, CA, and Kenneth E. Smith, husband of Rebecca J. of Falling Waters, WV; one daughter Barbara J. Noecker, wife of Lincoln A. of Gilbertsville; one brother, Jesse R. Bechtel, husband of Catherine of Oley; two sisters, Mary R. Schueck, widow of Homer of Bally and Sarah R. Forsythe, wife of Paul of Harleysville; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister Naomi R. Mest and one infant brother Thomas R. Bechtel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2941 Lutheran Road, Gilbertsville, PA. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made in his memory to Frederick Living Benevolent Care Fund, PO Box 498, Frederick, PA 19435.
