Robert D. Barnes

ROBERT D. BARNES, 79, GILBERTSVILLE Robert D. Barnes, 79, Gilbertsville, died February 20 in Florida. Born in Philadelphia, he grew up in Mount Airy and was a graduate of William Penn Charter, 1951; Colby College, 1956, and University of Pennsylvania, 1961. He was a member of the Maine National Guard, activated during the Korean War. He will be remembered as an Entrepreneur and Renaissance man of many talents. Owner of the Robert Barnes Sculpture Casting Co, located in Philadelphia and later Lambertville, NJ, he was a sculptor whose work sold through Art dealers in PA, NJ, and NYC; curator of two museums; college teacher; stock broke; builder and designer of houses, designer of Psychiatric facilities; world traveler; sailor and gardener. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, great intellect, his caring for others, and his work as a volunteer NGO in Cambodia for the American Friends Service Committee in 1985 and again 1989. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Natalie Otter Barnes; his brother, Peter D. C. Barnes, and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations in his memory may be given to Hospice.
