Theodore W. Long

THEODORE W. LONG, 62, OF LOWER POTTSGROVE Theodore W. "Ted" Long, 62, of Lower Pottsgrove Twp., PA, died suddenly, Monday, April 23, 2012 in Crystal River, FL. He was the husband of Tammy (Turben) Long with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. Born in Patuxant River, MD, he was a son of Mary Lessie (Pilkerton) McLaughlin of Long Island, NY and the late Willard Biscoe Long, Jr. and step son of James McLaughlin. Mr. Long received a bachelor's degree from The University of Phoenix in business management. He served in the U.S. Navy for 14 years on several nuclear submarines as a nuclear interior communications electrician, then continued his military career in the U.S. Naval Reserves for an additional 14 years. He attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. Following his military career, he became a technical training specialist for nuclear power plants and taught and developed training courses for several nuclear power plants across the United States. He loved spending time with his family, most of all his children and grandchildren, golfing with his sons and grandson Mason and catching Little League and soccer games, dance recitals and cheerleading competitions for all of his grandkids. He was especially fond of going to casinos with his wife and son Trent, although he wasn't very lucky. Ted was very technologically advanced. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed working around his home and was passionate about helping the Habitat For Humanity of Montgomery County, PA. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Tracey M. wife of James Franey; three sons, Troy R. Long and his wife Melanie, Trevor J. Long and his wife Sami and Trent B. Long, all of Pottstown, PA; his sister B. Jean Schumacher, wife of Rick Schumacher of California; eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown. Pastor Kendall Harris will officiate. Interment with military honors will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA and held at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held from 1 - 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
