Willard I. Erb

WILLARD I. ERB, 93, OF GILBERTSVILLE Willard I. Erb, 93, of Gilbertsville, husband of Ruth Mae (Geist) Erb, died Sunday at Phoenixville Hospital. He was born in Gilbertsville to the late Jennie (Huber) and Abner W. Erb. Willard worked for Erntex Knitting Mills in Gilbertsville as a foreman for 36 years. Later he worked as a custodian for the Boyertown School District for 9 1/2 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gilbertsville, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed his hobby of woodworking all his life. He played the organ, piano, accordion and guitar. He played in several country western bands and he also sang in the Chesmont Jubileers and with the Silver Cordsman Barbershop Quartet. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert E. Erb, husband of Mary Ann of Gilbertsville and Richard K. Erb, partner of S. Rich Sweigart of Reading; one daughter, Cheryl M., wife of C. Russell "Bud" Cattell of Gilbertsville; one sister, Gladys Moyer, widow of Ernest Moyer of Souderton; one brother Donald Erb, widower of Mae of Pottstown; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter Marie A. Tim and one sister Helen Erb. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Avenue, Gilbertsville, PA. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
