Gladys N. Esser

GLADYS N. ESSER, 89, OF DOUGLASSVILLE Gladys N. (Kline) Esser, 89, wife of the late Ralph Esser, died Wednesday, at Keystone Villa At Douglassville, Amity Twp. She was a former resident of Collegeville. Gladys was born on October 9, 1924, in Limerick Twp., and was a daughter of the late Paul T. and Kathryn (Rahn) Kline. She was a 1942 graduate of Pottstown High School. In addition to being a homemaker, Gladys was an executive assistant with several motor freight companies. Gladys was a 50-year member of Trinity Reformed Church, United Church Of Christ, where she implemented a greeter program, served as financial secretary, sang in the choir, served as president and treasurer of Trinity Class, was on the church council, and was a member of the Women's Guild. Gladys was a member and officer of the Collegeville Community Club, and director on the board of the United Fund of Collegeville - Trappe. She was a member of Freeland Chapter #323 Order Of The Eastern Star, Collegeville, the Needlework Guild (People Helping People), Collegeville, the Audubon Sr. Adult Activity Center (SAAC), and AARP. Her love of travel led her to organize senior adult bus trips for SAAC for over 20 years. She also enjoyed reading to children in the Head Start program and volunteering in the gift shop at the Montgomery County Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center. The highlight of her volunteer service was her induction into the Chapel of the Four Chaplains and being a finalist for the Governor's Silver & Gold Award. Gladys is survived by her children, Sharyn L. Edmisten, Roswell, GA, and R. Thomas, husband of Nancy (Does) Esser, Wayne; her granddaughters, Christy (Edmisten), wife of Eric Winter, Julie (Esser), wife of Brandon Barrett, Kelly Edmisten, wife of Aaron Hutchens, and Karen (Esser), wife of Anthony Coyne; and her great-grandchildren, Beau Barrett, Luke Barrett, Reid Winter, Ansley Winter, and Edith Huthchens. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Woodrow W. Kline and Thelma K. Renninger. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at Trinity Reformed Church, UCC, with the Rev. Dr. Martha B. Kriebel, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Monday, at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Reformed Church Improvement Fund, 532 E. Main St., Collegeville, PA 19426. Arrangements are by Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., Trappe.
