H. Burnis "Bernie" Fellman, 92, of Wernersville, formerly of Emmaus, and N. Ft. Myers, Fla., died March 24, 2013, in the Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center, after a long battle with several illnesses.
He was the husband of Reba M. (Henrie) Fellman, to whom he was married for 68 years.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Harvey B. & Jennie P. (Slifer) Fellman.
Bernie started his career as a teacher, first with the North Coventry School District and then with the Allentown School District, where he was a business teacher for 35 years, retiring in 1977 as chairman of the Business Dept. He was also the treasurer of the Allentown Teachers Credit Union.
He was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Force, where he was a Staff Sgt. in the 23rd Statistical Control Unit of the 12th Air Force.
Bernie was a member of St. John's (Hains) UCC in Wernersville.
He was a former member of the Alton Park Lions Club. He was a graduate of the William Allen H.S. Class of 1938, the Bloomsburg University Class of 1942, and received his master's degree from Penn State University.
He dearly loved his wife Reba and all of his family. He enjoyed playing cards, tennis, golf, traveling and doing crossword puzzles. He kept busy in his later years doing crafts. At Christmastime, he made something for everyone in his hall at Phoebe.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 Son, Barry C., husband of Heather J. Fellman of Fleetwood, and 2 Daughters, Sherry L., wife of Charles Stover of Finleyville, and Kerry A. Fellman of Millville. He is also survived by 5 Grandchildren, Christian, Caryn, Heather, Leigh & Benjamin, and 3 Great Grandchildren, Ean, Madison & Brayden. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Katherine Moyer & Margaret Smith.
Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel of Phoebe Berks Village, 1 Reading Dr., Wernersville, PA 19565 on April 2, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoebe Berks Village at the above address or to St. John's (Hains) UCC, 591 N. Church Rd., Wernersville, PA 19565. Dengler Funeral Home, Inc., Birdsboro, is in charge of the arrangements.
