CW2 Jarett M. Yoder, 26, of Mohnton, passed away April 9, 2013 in Afghanistan.
Born in Reading on Nov. 10, 1986, he was the son of Diane C. (nee Allcroft) and Gary L. Yoder of Richmond Township.
Jarett recently married Heather L. Garay-Yoder on July 7, 2012, just prior to his deployment to Afghanistan.
He was a highly trained solider and Apache helicopter pilot serving with B Company, 1/104th Aviation Regiment, 28th Combat Aviation Brigade, 28th Infantry Division based out of Fort Indiantown Gap.
Jarett was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, and NATO Medal for his service in Afghanistan. Other distinguished awards he received include a Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze service star, and Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze service star.
Jarett was a 2005 Graduate of Oley Valley High School. He enjoyed participating in athletics such as soccer, track and field, and wrestling. Jarett was also very interested in the arts as he enjoyed pottery.
Jarett was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Yoder.
In addition to Jarett's immediate family, he is survived by his paternal grandmother Doris Yoder, maternal grandparents Robert and Gail Allcroft, sister Amanda Yoder, and brother Bryon Yoder. Amanda and Bryon also serve in the PA Army National Guard.
He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Diane L. Newcomb and Joseph Garay of Mohnton; sister-in-law Melissa Garay Belinski, wife of Jonathan Belinski, Reading, and sister-in-law Ashley Garay, West Chester.
Jarett had five nieces: Kayla, Jailyn, Willow, Camila and Stella; and two nephews, Lucas and Jack.
Friends were encouraged to to pay their respects on Sunday, April 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Calvary United Christ Church in Reading. Religious service commenced at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. Br. Douglas Didyoung, SALM, Rev. Dr. Stephen Ohnsman and Chaplain Ronald Miller, U.S. Army (retired) will deliver the services.
Friends were invited to gather April 22 from 9-11 a.m. at Feeney Funeral Home. Procession to cemetery will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Mt. Penn.
Family requests donations be made to the "Jarett Yoder Scholarship Fund." Either send a check to the family directly at P.O. Box 139, Oley, PA 19547, or use any Wells Fargo Bank. The teller can assist with the donation. Additionally, you can donate to the "Jarett Yoder Memorial Fund." Proceeds will be dispersed to charities on behalf of Jarett Yoder.
