Paul Gleason Obituary

PAUL J. GLEASON, SR., 101, OF PHOENIXVILLE Paul J. "Spike" Gleason, Sr., 101, husband of the late Veronica (Buckley) Gleason, of Phoenixville, PA, died on June 12, 2013. Born in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (O'Brien) Gleason. Paul worked for the Daily Republican from 1926 to 1976, where he began as a printer for the newspaper, and retired as foreman of the composing room. He was a longtime active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, and in his earlier years sang in the St. Ann Church choir. He was the longest serving active member of the Knights of Columbus in the world. He served as District Deputy. He also was Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Phoenixville Council #1374, as well as holding several other council offices over the years. Spike was a longtime organizer of bowling events and golf outings, and up until recently he still enjoyed the Monday night poker games. For close to 60 years he organized the annual Memorial Day Service at Black Rock Cemetery. Spike was also an avid golfer, bowler, and a lifelong Notre Dame fan. Paul was a loving father of Paul J. Gleason, Jr. and wife Karen of Phoenixville and Michael J. Gleason and wife Joy of South Coventry, PA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brian, Amanda, Sean, Sarah, David, Jonathan and Daniel, and six great-grandchildren, Addison, Connor, Emerson, Ronan, Brennan and Caitlyn. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine and Mae, and his brothers, John and Edgar. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Mary and Dayton Street, Phoenixville, on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lawrence Gleason officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville. A viewing will be held in the church on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 212 Dayton Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Condolences may be given to the family at www.DevlinRosmosKepp.com. Arrangements are by the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville.

what a life he led. for God to allow him to live to 101! i never met him, but I hear he was a gentle man, would do anything for anyone. and all the activities he was in maybe one reason he lived to BE 101! May God comfort ALL the family!
