ROBERT C. QUAY SR., 87, OF PHOENIXVILLE Robert "Bob" C. Quay Sr., 87, of Phoenixville, passed away on January 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born November 10, 1925, Bob was the beloved husband of 66 years to Mary Ann (Ronto) Quay of Phoenixville. Bob grew up in Spring City, PA, where as a young boy he enjoyed his paper route, delivering milk, working on a dairy farm and raising beagles. He played varsity football in high school, but left in grade 12 to join the Navy during World War II. Bob became a demolitions expert and served with UDT-19 (Underwater Demolition Team 19), as a Navy Frogman. He was leader of his unit, the "Cullen Scully Cullers." He received a Pacific Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, and Victory Medal. Bob also attended Electrician School at Purdue University and received his high school diploma after returning home. He went on to have a 38-year career with Bell Telephone. Bob's favorite activities were collecting phones, hunting and fishing at his cabin, building model train displays, playing cards, and spending time with his friends and family. He received many awards in Phoenixville for his compassion towards others. Bob was known to use his skills to help others in the community, such as building communications boards for Pennhurst residents and constructing mobile telecarts so wounded soldiers at Valley Forge Army Hospital could call home. He was a member of the Navy UDT-Seal Museum, Bell Pioneers and the American Legion. Bob was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald Quay; his parents, Ronald C. Quay and Edna (Geib) Quay, and his son, Robert C. Quay Jr. Besides his loving wife, Mary, Bob is survived by his siblings, Marie (Edward) Boettger, Richard (Mary Ellen) Quay and Ralph (Bertha) Quay; his children, Roberta "Bobbie" (Maurice) McCann, Patricia (Dennis) Stauffer, Jim Quay, Mary Ann Quay, Cheryl (Steve) Griffith, Diane (Kim) Keeler, Ron (Katrina) Quay and Lisa (Chris) Schroeder Miller; 22 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends whose lives he touched in so many ways. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service from the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Limerick Garden of Memories. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in honor of Bob to SarahCare Adult Day Care Services, 425 Technology Drive, Malvern, PA 19355 or to Seasons Hospice, 630 Freedom Business Center, 3rd Floor, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
