THOMAS JAMES NEAFCY SR., 89, OF PHOENIXVILLE Thomas James Neafcy Sr., 89, husband of Joan E. (Ranney) Neafcy, died Wednesday, at Spring Mill Sr. Living, Balfour Circle, Phoenixville, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was a former resident of College Ave., Trappe, where he resided for 56 years. Thomas was born on March 11, 1923, in Philadelphia, and was a son of the late James and Sarah (Fitzgerald) Neafcy. He was a graduate of Pottstown High School. Thomas was an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, in the US Navy, during World War II. He served aboard the USS Hancock and received the Purple Heart following injuries related to a kamikaze attack. Thomas retired in 1987, as a foreman, from the Philadelphia Electric Co., Plymouth Twp., where he worked over 35 years. Thomas was a member of St. Eleanor's Catholic Church where he was an usher and lector. He was the founder and former president of the St. Mary Of Providence Guild For Special Needs Children, Elverson, PA; and a member of Kline-Styer-McCann Post 7155, Veterans Of Foreign Wars, Trappe. In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his children, Thomas Jr., husband of Kathy (Himchak) Neafcy, Limerick Twp.; Barbara, wife of Clarence "CJ" Yost, Houston, TX; Kathleen Neafcy, Berwyn; William "Tad" Neafcy, Phoenixville; Jody, wife of Donald Wright, Woodstock, GA, and Richard, husband of Suzanne (Cook) Neafcy, Trabuco Canyon, CA; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Ranney, Robbie, Cody Yost, Tyler, Haley, Chandler Wright, Hunter, and Hudson, and his great-grandson, Cameron. He was preceded in death by his six siblings. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Eleanor's Catholic Church, 647 Locust St., Collegeville. Burial will be in Doylestown Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., 21 Main St., Trappe. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Melmark Home, 2600 Wayland Rd., Berwyn, PA 19312.
