Adam Lee Matilsky Obituary
ADAM LEE MATILSKY, 34, OF LOWER POTTSGROVE Adam Lee Matilsky, 34, of Lower Pottsgrove Twp., PA, died on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Born in Pottstown, PA, he was a son of Dr. Philip and Louise A. (Handelman) Matilsky. Adam was a graduate of Pottsgrove High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He was working on completing studies for his master's degree. He was a mathematician and during high school and college tutored others with their math assignments. This led to his teaching career. He was a long time substitute teacher at Phoenixville High School. He was previously employed by the Coachella Valley High School System in their math department. In earlier years, for three summers he taught disabled children at Cabrini College's summer camp. An accomplished tuba player, he was All State in High School, played in the Pittsburgh marching band, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Coachella County Symphony Orchestra. He was generous, a dedicated student, musician and avid sports fan. Adam enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He also was a fan of Temple and the University of Pittsburgh. Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Robbyn K. Matilsky of Shillington, PA, and grandfather, Louis Etkin of Douglassville, PA. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown, PA. Rabbi Dr. Daniel M. Zucker will officiate. Friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Congregation Mercy & Truth Synagogue Cemetery, Pottstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Adam's name may be made to: Congregation Mercy & Truth Synagogue - (Adam Matilsky Scholarship Fund for the benefit of math, music and Jewish Studies.)
