Archie L. Follweiler, Sr., 82 passed away on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at his residence in Krumsville. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley M.( Sarig) Follweiler in 1991. |
He was born in Stony Run a son of the late George D. and Barbara ( Kunkel) Follweiler.
Archie grew up on the family Stony Run Fruit and Berry Farm. He became a truck driver and later a representative for the Atlantic Richfield Co., after which he became the owner operator of the former Sunoco and Argo gas stations on Route 100, in Foglesville, until 1972. He and his wife purchased the Kempton Hotel and operated it till 1979. He later formed the Kempton Excavating Co. and also operated the Krumsville Inn and finally returned to the Kempton Hotel, later selling it to his daughter Jody in 2004.
He was a 1949 graduate of Kutztown High School.
Archie was a member and former Fire Chief of the Kempton Fire Co.
Survivors includes a son, Archie L. Follweiler, Jr. and his wife Virginia ( Grim) of Kutztown; a daughter Jodi L. wife of Bobby Bowlin of Kempton; sisters, Dorothy Madeira, Arkansas, Grace Stump, Kutztown, Lila, wife of Ted Lichtenwalner, Wescoesville; brothers, Wayne Follweiler of Shoemakersville and Warren Follweiler of Kempton and a granddaughter, Courtney R. Follweiler. He was also predeceased by siblings Arlene Follweiler and George J. Follweiler.
His viewing will take place on Nov. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, (Rt. 143), New Tripoli, Pa. 18066. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service with interment to be private.
