Donald R. "Goodie" Good, 86, of Muhlenberg Twp,
passed away at home on Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was the companion of Lucy (Daub) Shomo. The couple had been together for over 20 years.

Born in Hyde Park on December 21, 1926, he was a son of the late Ralph and Lulu M. (Becker) Good.

Goodie was a U.S. Army veteran and served from 1945 to 1947. He then took over the family floral business, then known as Retail Floral Shop, and changed the name to Goodie the Florist. He enjoyed being a Muhlenberg Twp. crossing guard for 54 years. At the same time, he was also an umpire for amateur and pro baseball teams. He started in 1958 and never really did retire from it. He loved everything that had to do with baseball. He was also an avid fisher and enjoyed country music.

He was a member of the Goodwill (Hyde Park) Fire Co., Temple Fire Co. and the Berks County Umpires Association.

In addition to his companion, Lucy, Goodie is survived by three daughters, Pamela and her husband, Randy Ulrich of Mohnton, Vicky and her husband, David Astheimer of Fredrick, MD, and Cynthia Sunday of Hamburg; a stepson, Darrell Wenrich; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Goodie is predeceased by his wife, Violet M. (Brenner) Good and a brother, Franklin Good.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Forest Hills Memorial Park, 391 W. Neversink Rd., Reading. Family and friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Thursday in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading. The funeral procession will form at the Auman's Inc.
