DOUGLAS L. BEAN, 88, OF POTTSTOWN Douglas L. Bean, 88, of Pottstown, husband of the late Mary Jane (Stout) Bean, passed away Friday at his residence. Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Paul and Kathryn (Ingram) Bean. Mr. Bean was a retired employee of Barrick Goldstrike Mine in Elko, NV, as a supplies buyer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Mr. Bean was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ in Pottstown, as well as a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Pottstown Lodge # 254. Surviving is his daughter, Barbara Gelegotis, wife of William of Salt Lake City, UT; sons, Thomas Bean, husband of Melanie of Farmland, IN, and Barry Bean, husband of Beth of Pottstown; sister, Shirley Egolf, wife of Melvin of Leola, PA; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, November 3, 11 a.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, Pottstown. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas's memory to Zion's United Church of Christ, 209 Chestnut St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
