ELIZABETH YANNACCONE DeFRESCO, 93 Elizabeth (LaScala) Yannaccone DeFresco, 93, formerly of Pottsville, Stowe, Pottstown and Birdsboro, died Monday in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. A resident of Manatawny Manor since February 2011, Elizabeth was a native of Pottsville, PA, and was the youngest of six children born to the late Anthony and Catherine (Tucci) LaScala, Italian immigrants. In Pottsville, she attended the Jackson Street, Garfield Avenue and Pottsville High schools. After moving to Stowe, she was employed at Shuwall's and Loomcraft dress factories in Pottstown. In 1946 she married Ralph Yannaccone, a native of Minersville, and the couple settled in Pottstown. Ralph died of cancer in the Lebanon Veterans Hospital in 1964. In 1967, Elizabeth married Morris DeFresco and moved to Birdsboro. During her married life she busied herself with family and friends as well as her interests in crocheting, dress making and craft projects. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, step-son Anthony DeFresco, sister-in-law Jennie DeFresco, brother-/sister-in-law Russell and Shirley DeFresco, three brothers: Michael (Reading, PA), Anthony (Pottsville, PA) and Vincent LaScala (Pottstown, PA), and two sisters: Victoria LaScala Antonucci and Mary LaScala Haffey, both of Pottstown. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ann DeFresco (Reading); her step-daughter-in-law, Virginia DeFresco, Birdsboro, PA; two step-granddaughters: Anne Marie DeFresco Stuart (Brian) who resides in Ajax, Ontario, Canada and Debra DeFresco Wiechardt (William) Richboro, PA; two step-great-grandchildren (Alyson and Tyler Stuart); nieces: Josephine Antonucci Bartchak (Pottstown), Catherine Antonucci Wagner (Niceville, FL), Mary Ann LaScala Dragna (Pottsville, PA), Alice Haffey Kurtas (Parker Ford, PA), and Nancy Haffey Pendleton (Boulder, CO); nephews: Anthony LaScala (Stowe), Anthony, Philip, and Michael LaScala (Reading, PA), and Ronald LaScala (Pottstown). She is also survived by nieces: Patricia Ryan Umberger (Reading, PA), Barbara (Ryan) O'Brien (Norristown, PA), Rose (Betty) Yannaccone Ryan, Rose DiSarro Kennedy, Ann DiSarro (all of Minersville, PA), Lucy DiSarro Salviola (Hatboro, PA) and nephews: Walter Miscavage (Minersville) and John (Milford, NJ) and Joseph DiSarro (Pennside, PA), as well as many grand-nieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 905 Chestnut St., (Rt. 345) Union Twp., Berks Co., PA on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. John B. McCann officiating. A viewing will take place at the church from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elizabeth's memory to Immaculate Conception R. C. Church, 905 Chestnut St., Douglassville, PA 19518 or to the Activity Fund at Manatawny Manor, 30 Old Schuylkill Road, P.O. Box 799, Pottstown, PA 19465.
